When Dr. Laura Stachel went to Nigeria in 2008, she witnessed deplorable hospital conditions, including electric outages that harmed maternity and surgical care. Laura and her husband, Hal Aronson, a solar energy educator in Berkeley, California, founded We Care Solar to improve healthcare in regions without reliable electricity. The organization has provided “solar suitcases” for facilities in 18 African and 10 Asian countries, as well as in Central America and in the Caribbean.

The We Share Solar Educational Program is an innovative new program from We Care Solar that gives American youth a chance to link science and technology with international philanthropy. This initiative is a project-based curriculum for middle schools, high schools and colleges designed to improve STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills, solar energy knowledge, and awareness of sustainable development and energy poverty in the developing world.
