When Dr. Laura Stachel went to Nigeria in 2008, she witnessed deplorable hospital conditions, including electric outages that harmed maternity and surgical care. Laura and her husband, Hal Aronson, a solar energy educator in Berkeley, California, founded We Care Solar to improve healthcare in regions without reliable electricity. The organization has provided “solar suitcases” for facilities in 18 African and 10 Asian countries, as well as in Central America and in the Caribbean.
